The revised Iowa Developed Energy Activity Sampler (IDEAS) was compiled using the original IDEAS program and the Energy Conservation Activity Packets (ECAPS). This document provides activities for teachers to use with students in teaching social studies. The activities are intended to demonstrate the impact of energy technology on today's society. Each of the 39 activities in this guide includes: (1) the subject area for which the activity was intended; (2) the grade level; (3) a brief statement about the activity itself; (4) the objective(s); (5) a list of materials needed; (6) the approximate amount of time needed for the activity; (7) a more complete description of the activity, including the various components of the activity and their relationship to Piaget's learning cycle (awareness, concept development, application); and (8) some follow-up/background information. The focal points of the document as a whole are energy concerns, impacts, choices, challenges, and conservation. (TW)
