Scope Note: 
Variable construct that refers to the quality of separateness individuals and groups feel toward other individuals or groups because of socioeconomic, racial/ethnic, gender, religious, or similar differences. May be associated with depersonalizing, dehumanizing, and devaluing others. Prior to 2004, the Identifier "Social Distance" may have been used to index this concept.
