Multiple Literacies

Scope Note:
Variable construct referring to the competencies needed to function effectively in a particular field, subject area, or environment. Multiple literacy conceptualizations generally include facility with written language but represent a broader concept of literacy than conventional definitions that typically focus on reading, writing, and, in some instances, numeracy. For reading and writing facility, see the Descriptor "Literacy".
