Asynchronous Communication
Scope Note:
Communication that does not occur in real time or involve simultaneous interaction on the part of participants. It is intermittent and generally characterized by a significant time delay or interval between sending and receiving or responding to messages. Although frequently used to describe electronic communication tools, such as e-mail and bulletin boards, asynchronous communication can also take place in non-electronic environments.
