Wide-Screen Cinema and Stereophonic Sound.
Wysotsky, Michael Z.
Developments in the techniques of wide screen cinema and stereophonic sound throughout the world are detailed in this book. Particular attention is paid to progress in the Soviet Union in these fields. Special emphasis is placed on the Soviet view of stereophonic sound as a vital adjunct in the search for enchanced realism as opposed to the Western viewpoint that it does not merit the high cost of installation. The various systems which are surveyed and described include: wide screen systems, wide gauge films, panoramic films, circular-panoramic cinematography, three-dimensional sound transmission, stereo sound for films, Soviet wide screen systems, wide format films in the Soviet Union, Soviet systems of panoramic films, Soviet systems of circular-panoramic films, Soviet wide screen dynamic frame system, and acoustics for wide screen theaters. Each system is thoroughly illustrated with line drawings and statistical diagrams, and applications and advantages of each are provided. (Author/SH)
