The Indoctrination Debate and the Great Depression
Violas, Paul C.
History Teacher, 4, 4, 25-35, May 71
The role of the educational system in the formation of particular social attitudes and values is discussed. Three positions taken by educators during the depression are examined: 1) the indoctrination of students to support the status quo; 2) indoctrination of students to support a defined future society; and, 3) training which will enable students to participate in decision making.
