Mothers' and Fathers' Questions to Their Child in Mexican-Descent Families: Moderators of Cognitive Demand during Play.
Tenenbaum, Harriet R.; Leaper, Campbell
Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, v19 n3 p318-32 Aug 1997
The cognitive demand in questions directed to Mexican-descent children by their mothers and fathers were analyzed for videotaped play situations involving gender-neutral, masculine-, or feminine-stereotyped toys. Mothers asked proportionately more conceptual questions than did fathers. Mothers' question asking was influenced by child gender, language spoken, and education. Contains 37 references. (Author/SV)
