Implementation of Programs for the Gifted/Talented: A Workbook for Educators and Parents.
California Association for the Gifted.
Intended for use by educators and parents, the workbook is intended to help in the development or expansion of programs for the gifted and talented as required by the California Education Code's AB 1040, effective from 1980 to 1985. After introductory material, the first section provides a detailed interpretive analysis of AB 1040 noting the special emphasis placed on serving gifted and talented pupils from economically disadvantaged and varying cultural backgrounds. Next, the booklet provides a program development flow chart which stresses the gathering of data, decision making, and program implementation. A major section identifies and discusses criteria for effective implementation of gifted/talented programs. Criteria are grouped into the categories of identification, program, curriculum, staff development, parent involvement, and evaluation. A checklist using the same categories is offered next for applying the criteria to program implementation. Sample implementation worksheets for each category are also given. (DB)
