Storyboards for Meaningful Patterns

The initial focus of this kindergarten-level action research project was on identifying which students could create a pattern. The focus then shifted to helping all students successfully achieve this goal. The intervention uses a storyboard where students select colored cubes to represent objects and then snap the cubes together as indicated on the storyboard. Results extended beyond the mathematics lesson, affecting students' verbal language skills as they "read" the patterns they created. The "early childhood corner" department regularly journal features articles related to the teaching and learning of young children. (Contains 1 figure.)
