Parents' Attitudes toward Sterilization of Their Mentally Retarded Children.
Wolf, Lucille; Zarfas, Donald E.
American Journal of Mental Deficiency, v87 n2 p122-29 Sep 1982
One hundred fifty-seven parents' attitudes toward sterilization and the sexuality of their retarded offspring were identified. Parent and child characteristics associated with these attitudes were investigated. Findings indicated that parents substantially concurred with the principle of sterilization (71 percent for involuntary, 67 percent for voluntary), and 65 percent felt that their offspring were not capable of sustaining a marriage.
