To ensure optimal standards for AAFCS program accreditation, the Council for Accreditation (CFA) conducted a review and revision of the "2001 AAFCS Standards for Accreditation." The CFA took a three-pronged approach including (a) a review of academic accreditations that had relationships to the FCS disciplines, (b) concept, content, and process surveys of faculty and chairs in accredited and non-accredited programs, and (c) constituent input from the AAFCS Collegiate Assembly. The CFA analyzed, distilled, and internalized all data collected and developed a plan to revise the 2001 standards. The revision focused on (a) showcasing program excellence, (b) emphasizing the importance of the integrative, synergistic nature of the Body of Knowledge (BOK) and how it is embedded across academic program(s), (c) including assessment to determine program quality and to inform change, (d) emphasizing diversity, (e) de-emphasizing an institution's academic program structure, and (f) removing redundancy. The outcome is a leaner, updated, reorganized document that lets AAFCS programs demonstrate excellence and creativity as well as maintain/enhance their reputations within their academic and constituent communities.
