Acquired Levels of Geographical Concepts among 5th Grade Students

In this research, the geographical concepts that are recommended to be taught for primary school fifth grade students are analyzed. Three of these concepts are in developmental level whereas eight of them are in consolidation level. Of the three geographical concepts which it is recommended the students acquire at a developmental level, it was observed that only two had been successfully taught. Of the 8 geographical concepts which it is recommended to be taught in the consolidation level, it was observed that in only two had the targets been met. Other concepts were seen as unreached target values. Possible causes of this situation were investigated and some suggestions were given. (Contains 16 tables and 4 figures.)
