Förtsch, Christian; Werner, Sonja; von Kotzebue, Lena; Neuhaus, Birgit J. – Research in Science & Technological Education, 2018
Background: Education Standards highlight the importance of conceptual knowledge. Instructional tasks play a key role in biology instruction and offer learning opportunities for students. Tasks contain of a content and a demands part. Therefore, complexity and cognitive level are adequate variables to describe tasks and are assumed effective for…

Azencot, Moshe; Blum, Abraham – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1984
Compared the performance of teachers and students on the Field Experiences Achievement Test with results obtained from seventh-grade students who took the FEAT during its development and validation. Results indicate that tests developed for student use may also be used in inservice teacher education programs. (JN)

Lock, Roger – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1990
Investigated are the context dependency and construct validity of practical skill assessment in science which may include the skills of observing, manipulating, planning, interpreting, reporting, and self-reliance. Pupil performance on a variety of practical tasks were compared with external examination grades in biology and chemistry. (CW)

Pugh, Malcolm; Lock, Roger – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1989
The development of a framework for analyzing pupil talk is described and the reliability of scoring transcribed conversions using the framework discussed. Definitions and examples of the terms used in the framework are appended. (Author/YP)

Brown, C. R.; Njabili, A. F. – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1989
Explores the concept of construct validity in the context of a public examination. Multitrait-multimethod analysis and factor analysis were used. Discusses the analyses in terms of theory versus practical components and experimental versus observational investigation in practical components. Sample items for the practical examinations are…

Brown, C. R.; And Others – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1995
Assessment of practical objectives by means of a project which occurred in an operational Advanced level examination in the United Kingdom is analyzed for construct validity. As in previous research, low correlation were found between scores of (n=218) candidates on the project and on the other components of the examination. (18 references)…

Brown, C. R.; And Others – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1992
Scrutinizes the assessment of students' practical skills, in an honors-level biology examination, for construct validity utilizing both correlational and factor analytical methods to explore relationships between students' practical (laboratory) and theoretical (written) performances. Indicates that teacher assessment of practical skills resulted…

Brown, C. R.; Moore, F. L. – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1994
Analyzes construct validity of two different methods of assessing practical skills in advanced level biology by considering how candidates' scores on practical objectives relate to each other and to those on theory papers. Differences were found in the interrelationships among scores of the two methods. (ZWH)

Soyibo, Kola – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1999
Discusses the performance of 11th-grade students from Barbados, Belize, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and Trinidad (n=1216) on an Errors in Biological Labeling Test (EBLT). Concludes that performance was low in six categories of errors, and that girls performed significantly better on each category of error than did boys. Contains 15…
