Brock, Cecilia
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, St. John's University (New York), School of Education and Human Services
As apex leaders, school superintendents are impacted by the continuous demand to be effective while utilizing electronic communication technology. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the use of electronic communication technology impacts a school superintendent's efficacy. Public education, in the twenty-first century, finds itself in a miasma of new and forward thrusting technologies. Public schools in this new century are inundated with technology, asked to continuously focus on the collection and use of data, and explore and implement new avenues of communication. School superintendents, as apex leaders of each school district, are placed in a position to answer the question of how to integrate and utilize electronic communication technology, find substantial meaning in the presented technology, and determine the technology's usefulness as it pertains to their own efficacy. This is the focus of the study. How a school superintendent utilizes electronic communication technology is a component of their leadership and behavior practices. A school superintendent's use of electronic communication technology sets an example for how electronic communication technology can effect, influence, and impact a school's culture. This study will examine school superintendents and how electronic communication technology impacts their efficacy as a school district's chief executive officer.
