"When you need to innovate, you need collaboration" (Racher, 2017, web-blog). In an ever-changing time in education, when critics are in full force, when there continue to be teacher shortages and competition for teacher candidates, the time comes for both school districts and universities to decide to be intentionally innovative and collaborative by forming partnerships. Federal and state mandates may begin as the impetus for the need of collaboration and partnerships, but the success of the initial partnerships and the evolution of perceptions and the partnership gains and opportunities create possibilities for further innovation and collaboration. The main purpose of this article is to explore the perceptions of the co-development and implementation of a university and an urban school district-developed partnership to address challenges faced by both institutions: accountability, teacher shortage, and preparation, and placement of highly qualified teachers. One critical, shared need of school and university partners is to enhance educator preparation and commit to the diversification of both institutions. Universities and school districts can form partnerships to better meet the needs of both entities and ultimately impact teacher candidates and PK-12 students as well. A mixed methods research process was conducted through a case study model involving qualitative and descriptive statistical analyses.
