Kenyan parents want their children to have an education that will maximize their full potential, and they are prepared to make tremendous sacrifices to ensure their children get that education. However, the best schools cost far more than most families can afford, and even the most humble local schools require parents to pay for school fees, school uniforms, and books. Many a young Kenyan has dropped out of school for lack of funds. Parents are among the primary teachers of their gifted children, whether the child has access to formal schooling or not. This paper provides suggestions on ways that parents can model for their gifted children, including reading a book they picked up at the library; playing a musical instrument, singing, or joining a theater group; and continuing their own informal education. By nurturing their own talents and sharing what they have learned, parents can bring new insights to their children on a daily basis to help them reach their full potential.
