The Black Family and Community: Some Problems in the Development of Achievement Values.
Irvine, Russell W.
Negro Educational Review, v29 n3-4 p249-54 Jul-Oct 1978, 78

The dichotomy is essentially between the requirements of achievement, which stress individual effort, and features of Black culture, which stress corporate initiative and effort. (Author/EB)
