Geography Undergraduate Program Essentials: Recruitment
Estaville, Lawrence E.; Brown, Brock J.; Caldwell, Sally
Journal of Geography, v105 n1 p3-12 2006
Following an integrative model that shows the complex connections of recruitment, retention, and placement, this first paper in a three-part series explores the challenging endeavor of attracting students to undertake geography as their undergraduate major. Survey data of incoming students are indispensable in constructing successful recruitment plans. Although department Web sites are becoming evermore significant, teaching excellence is key to recruiting geography students. The perceptions of parents are critical in their children's decisions to pursue academic majors that lead to rewarding professional positions.
