Using Case Study Methodology to Examine Practices in Exemplary College Access Centers
Stillisano, Jacqueline R.; Waxman, Hersh C.; Brown, Danielle B.; Alford, Beverly L.
Journal of Ethnographic & Qualitative Research, v8 n3 p173-189 2014
This study focused on the unique qualities of selected college access centers established in Texas high schools with the dual goal of assisting students with college preparation activities and of creating a school-wide college going culture. Six centers demonstrating estimable outcomes on at least one of several different variables were identified, and qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with individuals (N = 34) at each campus who were familiar with the outreach efforts of the school's GO Center. Incorporating case study methods provided researchers with common themes across the individual centers and allowed them to develop a comprehensive picture of each center's specific experiences, challenges, and opportunities related to developing and implementing an exemplary college access program.
