Muhametjanova, Gulshat; Ismailova, Rita
Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia, v28 n3 p331-352 Jul 2019
Today, technology is growing fast and person can't imagine life without technology and social networking sites like Facebook. As statistics show, people almost all over the world use Facebook in every day (Newswire, 2014), (Madge et al, 2009). In this paper, we study the intention for SNSs usage and the attitude of students toward SNS based instruction in one of the universities in the Kyrgyz Republic (KR) Computerization in KR started relatively later than in the rest of the world (Aitymov, 2005; Google, Hyperakt, Vizzuality, 2011), there is still low internet penetration rate in some distant regions, consequently, the perception of SNS is slightly dissimilar in KR. The survey was conducted with a sample of 234 students from different departments. The dependence of frequency of SNS use on gender and academic major of students, as well as relation between frequency of use and willingness to use SNS for educational purpose was examined. Results show that even though Facebook is very popular among students; perception of educational use of SNS mostly depends on the social factors. In addition, some barriers like access to computers, and internet connection problems at home still exist.
