Surveyed residents (n=512) of a Canadian city to examine social stigmatization of tobacco smokers. Found clear evidence of an unfavorable stereotype of smokers. Majority of nonsmokers preferred nonsmokers in roles in which incumbents were likely to be in close proximity. (Author/ABK)

Collected data on smoking attitudes and behaviors via interviews of representative sample of city residents, using four indicators of social class position.
