The International Apostolate of Jesuit Education: Recent Developments and Contemporary Challenges
Mesa, Jose
International Studies in Catholic Education, v5 n2 p176-189 2013
Jesuit education has gone to a renewal process in recent decades as a response to the Vatican Council II and the Society of Jesus's own call for renovation. This process has been conceived as part of our living tradition that began with the "Ratio Studiorum" and the opening of many schools and universities through the world in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. The renovation has usually been conceived as rooted in the spiritual vision and experience of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and what it says to our present times. The renewal has also touched other important areas such as the philosophy of education earlier conceived in the humanist tradition of the Italian sixteenth century; the context of modern pedagogies and the reflection our own practices and challenges.
