International Journal of Learning and Change, v3 n4 p338-354 2009
Understanding the influence of culture on education systems is central to the internationalization process of academic programs. In this paper we analyze the effect of societal culture on teaching and learning in the management programs of three educational institutions in Germany, India, and Mexico. We applied of the findings of GLOBE (House et al., 2004) project for certain cultural dimensions, the teaching styles defined in the research done by Grasha (1996) and Grasha & Yangarber-Hicks (2000) and the knowledge, skill and attitude competences of academics as defined by Cannon-Bowers, Tannenbaum, Salas, and Volpe (1995) as the theoretical framework. Interestingly, the results of the study show that the goal statements do not completely reflect the societal practice "as is", but are related instead to the societal values "should be" of the GLOBE findings. Finally, we have made some suggestions that relate to creating an inclusive learning and teaching environment. (Contains 4 tables.)
