For the last quarter century the author's professional interest has been almost exclusively the population of highly able, gifted and talented children and young people. His attention has been particularly focused on the "why," "what" and "how" aspects of providing for their exceptional educational and social emotional needs. Given his article was to be published in a journal dedicated to issues associated with gifted and talented children, it was inevitable Ghassib's (2010) article would be read through the lens of the author's experience with, knowledge of, and hopes for this population. The author began to ponder the purpose, need or influence of the article strictly "in the context of the children and young people" with whom he has had contact over the past few years. In this article, the author offers some thoughts on the implications of Ghassib's theory for gifted education.
