McArdle, John J.; Hamagami, Fumiaki; Bautista, Randy; Onoye, Jane; Hishinuma, Earl S.; Prescott, Carol A.; Takeshita, Junji; Zonderman, Alan B.; Johnson, Ronald C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2014
In this study, we reanalyzed the classic Hawai'i Family Study of Cognition (HFSC) data using contemporary multilevel modeling techniques. We used the HFSC baseline data ("N" = 6,579) and reexamined the factorial structure of 16 cognitive variables using confirmatory (restricted) measurement models in an explicit sequence. These models…

Hakstian, A. Ralph; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Cognitive ability tests, personality inventories, and administrative- skills measures were administered to 238 telephone company employees. A small number of interpretively and predictively useful molar personal/motivational scales were derived using factor analysis. Some measures from each of the domains of the assessment battery were found to be…

Rice, Treva; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
A battery of nine cognitive abilities tests to assess verbal, spatial, perceptual speed, and memory abilities in children at age four was constructed and administered to a sample of 267 children in the Colorado Adoption Project. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses revealed four correlated factors that adequately describe the covariation…

Khattab, Ali-Maher; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Based on reanalyses of correlational data obtained from the University of Southern California Aptitudes Research Project, this investigation examined the extent to which two higher order factors of semantic content and symbolic content form Guilford's structure-of-intellect model reflected distinct constructs. Roid, Gale A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The Figural, Symbolic, and Semantic dimensions or the Structure of Intellect Learning Abilities (SOI-LA) tests have been employed as prescriptive tools for matching students to appropriate methods of reading instruction. A multiple-group factor analysis revealed strong evidence of their construct validity in a normative sample of 364 second…

Singer, Sandra; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
An eight test battery was constructed to measure four specific cognitive abilities in preschool children: verbal skill, memory, perceptual speed, and spatial ability. Based on results of factor analyses of the testing of 98 three year olds, a shorter version, consisting of four tests, was devised which shows promising validity. (Author/BS)

Michael, William B.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
This investigation is an extension of TM 506 002. A factor analysis of the intercorrelations of academic self-concept and reading scores revealed three factors: Academic Achievement, Positive Academic Affect, and Anxiety. The results also showed that the factor structure served to explain the criterion-related validity coeffecients obtained in the…

Favero, Jane; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
For a sample of 152 children in grades 2 to 6, interest centered upon concurrent validity of measures of empathy and social sensitivity as conceptualized within the behavioral segment of Guilford's structure-of-intellect model and a criterion measure represented by a standardized test of academic performance. Morris, John D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
This study compared double cross-validation replication predictive accuracies of six types of factor scores with full-rank data by utilizing data in which classroom achievement was predicted from affective and cognitive variables. Prediction was significantly more accurate for factor scores than for full-rank data. (Author/CP)
