This article is a follow-up to Mary Devin's report on the collaborative efforts required to create the "Kansas Educational Leadership Institute" in 2010. The Kansas Educational Leadership Institute (KELI) moved from planning to implementation on March 30, 2011, as a statewide systematic support system for the recruitment, development, and retention of quality leaders in schools and school districts in Kansas and possibly beyond. Devin reports on some of the accomplishments during the first year of KELI such as: twenty-six first year superintendents completing the initial KELI mentoring/induction program; thirteen first year superintendents meeting the requirements for adding the district leader professional endorsement on their teaching credential; and over 100 superintendents from across the state participating in KELI's first series of deep learning opportunities. Devin concludes that Kansas education is in a time of great transformational change, and KELI, with its focus on bringing experts and practitioners together to focus on leadership best practices and compliance initiatives working in real school districts, is up to the task to meet this change. The support and active involvement of key decision makers across the partner organizations turned a year of planning and creating into a year of immediate productivity and promise for the future.
