Writing Boston: Graffiti Bombing as Community Publishing
Lesh, Charles
Community Literacy Journal, v12 n1 p62-86 Aut 2017
Working as an ethnographer with graffiti writers in Boston, the author has collected a range of materials, and experiences. Graffiti writing is a patently spatial practice, and existing scholarship across disciplines has emphasized this situated relationship between graffiti and the production of, and resistance to, contemporary, neoliberal spaces. While the author pulls on this important scholarship throughout this article, he wants to think about graffiti in a specific way: as a form of community publishing. Graffiti seems an almost exemplary community-publishing project.
