First Generation Business Students Attitudes towards Learning in Small Liberal Arts Colleges
Tapia, Raul, Jr.; Ekigwe, Emmanuel
College Student Journal, v55 n1 p80-88 Mar 2021
First-generation students are faced with different challenges when joining the institutions of higher learning. Some of the experiences encountered by these students when entering these institutions can disorient them in a manner that affects their learning abilities. For this reason, it is necessary to come up with an approach that enhances their preparedness in joining these institutions. Both the first-generation students and the institutions which they plan to join must be well prepared in handling the challenges that are to be faced. The paper is to address some of these issues to be encountered by the first-generation business students in liberal arts colleges. Moreover, based on these experiences, the students develop some attitudes towards these colleges, which will also be covered under discussion. The methodology to be employed in this study will be by drawing upon a review of literature developed by different scholars concerning first-generation business students. The experiences detailed by students in these reviews will be of the essence in developing an understanding that of the topic under discussion. Most of the first-generation students will be understood to be in love with liberal colleges based on the exposure provided to students by these colleges. Finally, the paper will highlight the importance of liberal schools towards the success of first-generation students.
