The Changing Role of the School Principal
Ediger, Marlow
College Student Journal, v48 n2 p265-267 Sum 2014
The role of the school principal has changed much in the recent intervening years. He/she was formerly thought of as a manager and management of the local school. Today the principal is seen as the leader of curriculum improvement. School principals must believe in pupils being able to achieve optimally in school and in life. Principals must become self efficacious in knowledge and skills in curriculum development. There are selected areas in which principals may play leadership roles in assisting teachers in teaching and learning situations. Examples in reading, mathematics, science, and social studies are listed in this article. A list of inservice education opportunities for all teachers, as well as the principal self involvement in acquiring self efficacy is provided.
