While listening to the audiobook version of "This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage" by Ann Patchett, the author realized how often higher education professionals invent new stories of who they are within the environments where they work. "People, places, ideals, and art" are Patchett's focus throughout the book. Higher education leadership is at a critical place, and with regard to women thriving as leaders, we are beyond critical. The author explains that today is the best day to work on behalf of women's leadership. Tomorrow, we will see the benefits of more inclusive leadership. In this article, the author asks the following questions: (1) People: who is necessary to increase the number of women leaders? (2) Places: what will attract women to the places where higher education occurs? (3) Ideals: why is increased women's leadership worth supporting? and (4) Art: how will we continue to write the story about women leaders when we achieve our goals?
