Peer Involvement Advisors Improve First-Year Student Engagement and Retention
Peck, Adam
About Campus, v16 n3 p22-25 Jul-Aug 2011
In this article, the author describes the Involvement Center and Peer Involvement Advising Program at Stephen F. Austin State University which were developed to address the important and persistent problems in higher education. Early indications are that the program is quite effective in doing so. In its second full year of existence, the Involvement Center is exceeding expectations and may provide a unique model for deeply engaging both outgoing and introverted students and providing them with a means to prime future learning through their experiences.
