White, Gene, Jr.; Casebolt, Kevin; Hull, Stephanie
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v18 n2 p27-29 Nov-Dec 2004
Developing strategies that integrate disabled children into general academic and physical education settings is essential. The goal of educators should be to identify skills that promote lifelong success for students with disabilities through an inclusive physical education environment. Low-organized games, identified as active, organized group games and movement experiences that nurture social, emotional, cognitive, and physical learning, and encourage the development of trust, autonomy, initiative, and bonding for all individuals, are developed in order to promote lifelong success for all participants. This paper describes several low-organized games, including "Follow Me" and "Swedish Meetball," that provide physical educators with an opportunity to successfully include individuals with various disabilities into their classes.
