Bringing Together Critical Thinking and Cooperative Learning between Two Schools
Gossett, Michael; Fischer, Olga
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v19 n2 p27-30 Nov-Dec 2005
Physical educators are pressured not only to teach their subject area and motivate children to become active, but also implement a cross-disciplinary curriculum. A cross-disciplinary curriculum is defined as developing learning experiences that integrate physical education with mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, and the arts. Such curriculum allows the learning experience to be more meaningful, fun, and rewarding for students by bridging the gap between physical education and other subject areas. In this article, the authors propose another approach that enable children to apply critical-thinking skills in group setting. They believe this approach is more effective as studies show that cooperative education has a positive impact on the students and their learning. (Contains 2 figures.)
