Instructing and Assessing Cooperative Team-Building Activities
Hagood, Susan; Lynn, Susan; Riverso, Orlando
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v19 n2 p21-26 Nov-Dec 2005
Children need to learn teamwork and communication skills so that they can work successfully as a part of a community. Social-skill deficits in children have been linked to delinquency, school drop out, and substance abuse (McCay & Keyes, 2001). Physical education can teach students the importance of working together to create a positive learning environment. The purpose of this article is to give four examples of team-building activities that can be used in a physical education program, and provide samples of assessment tools for affective objectives that correspond to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) standards (NASPE, 2004). The assessment tools can be used with any of the team-building activities. (Contains 6 figures.)
