Lee, Jason W.; Bush, Gayle; Smith, Edith W.
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v18 n3 p11-13 Jan-Feb 2005
Experiential education is a teaching methodology employed to facilitate learning. All forms of experiential education require students to "learn by doing" as they participate in activities outside the classroom. Common forms of experiential education utilized by sport and physical educators include field and laboratory activities, service learning projects, and a wide variety of individual, class, or group projects. These activities provide students with valuable experiences prior to graduation that can strengthen their resumes and open doors to professional networking. In this article, the authors focus on service learning activities and describe how it could provide students with opportunities to develop themselves through community involvement.
