Creating an Effective Accountability Plan in Physical Education
James, Alisa
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v19 n5 p13-16 May-Jun 2006
Teachers use different measures to hold students accountable for attainment of learning outcomes, task involvement, and appropriate behavior. Physical educators must have an effective plan for accountability in physical education because without teacher-imposed student accountability, student interests rather than teacher expectations dictate what happens in class. Teachers must consider how to hold students accountable. Many teachers devote a great deal of thought and rime in planning for learning outcomes, but often spend less time determining how to hold all students accountable for meeting those learning outcomes. The purpose of this article is twofold: (1) to discuss some of the techniques that teachers can use to hold students accountable for achieving learning outcomes; and (2) to propose specific steps to facilitate the creation of an effective student accountability plan.
