Lacrosse in the Physical Education Setting: Strategies for Success
Hagood, Susan Y.; Cathey, R. Michael
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v26 n2 p8-13 2013
This article on the game of lacrosse focuses on offensive strategies used
to help students become successful in game play. It describes lead-up activities students should know and perform, such as stick holding, cradling, scooping, catching, and the passing fundamentals of lacrosse. The progressions of tasks in this article were designed from simple to complex to allow students to develop strategies for game play. By changing people, space, and equipment, a teacher can modify the environment to help students better understand how strategies are used in invasion games. Even though the focus in this article is related to lacrosse, the activities can be modified for any invasion game. By learning the strategies in these lead-up games, students are well on their way to becoming skillful and successful game players. (Contains 1 table and 7 figures.)
