Development of Phonological Awareness and Reading Acquisition: A Study in Spanish Language.
Carrillo, Marisol
Reading and Writing: An Interdisciplinary Journal, v6 n3 p279-98 Sep 1994
Examines relationships between levels of phonological awareness and early reading ability. Finds significant correlations between metaphonological abilities and reading for kindergarteners but weak or nonexistent correlations in the tasks involving sensitivity to phonological similarities for first graders. Notes that all children who developed segmental awareness were able to read, but some good readers performed poorly in some segmental tasks. (RS)
