The Language and Literacy Worlds of Three Profoundly Deaf Preschool Children.
Williams, Cheri L.
Reading Research Quarterly, v29 n2 p124-55 Apr-Jun 1994
Investigates the verbal language experiences and early literacy learning of three prelingually, profoundly deaf preschool children across home and school contexts. Finds that, despite receptive language delay, all three children demonstrated knowledge and understanding of written language that were developmentally appropriate. Supports the theory that language acquisition and early literacy learning occur simultaneously and reinforce one another. (SR)
