Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, v35 n3 p36-48 2024
This study identifies and analyzes factors impacting students' perceptions of international instructors' teaching effectiveness at a U.S. public university. The researchers conceptualized teaching effectiveness as a combination of factors and applied structural equation modeling to analyze the effects on students' perceptions of effectiveness. Analyzing approximately 2,000 responses, the study concludes that international instructors' communication skills and ability to provide a supportive learning environment significantly impact students' perceptions, yet familiarity with American academic culture does not directly affect their perceptions. The authors offer recommendations to enhance teaching effectiveness for instructors, students, and institutions.
