Conceiving of schools as communities of learners demands a new understanding of teaching and a redefinition of school member roles. This article discusses the principal's role in a community of learning as both facilitating and modeling learning. Both types of behavior are illustrated, and implications of this role reconceptualization for preservice administrator training are discussed. (11 references) (MLH)
