The Predictive Reading Profile (PRP) is an individual or group-administered instrument designed to examine precursors to reading difficulties by identifying children at risk for reading failure in later grades and special instructional needs for children in late kindergarten and first grade. The purpose of the PRP "is to develop a profile of a child's level of achievement in a number of areas important for success in reading". The previous version of the PRP was the Literacy Screening Battery (LSB; Flynn, 1997). The PRP maintains the major components of the LSB with several minor alterations. These include requirement that examinees circle or mark a response with an "x" so only recognition responses are needed, improvement in the design of the artwork and stimuli on some subtests, elimination of the Formcopy subtest, addition of the Sound-Syllable counting subtest, and addition of Story Writing and Phonemic Segmentation as optional subtests. This article provides a general description of PRP and its technical adequacy. This article also provides a review of PRP.
