Forging New Partners within Oklahoma Communities
Ball, Ruth Ann
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v96 n4 p64-65 2004
Building partnerships is an important task between teachers and administrators in early childhood settings. To provide continuity for the children and support for the families, it is critical for the staff to communicate about the expectations each early childhood program has for the children. In several layers of work, early childhood professionals in Oklahoma have built an infrastructure within communities to do just that. Head Start supplemental funding provided support for educating individuals to facilitate community meetings. As a follow-up, another Head Start supplemental grant provided support for nine regional meetings the following year with teachers and individuals from child care, family child care homes, public schools, and Head Start. The third level evolved out of an Early Childhood Educator Professional Development Grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education; the project is entitled "Building Partnerships for Early Steps to Literacy." The results will be published in a case study available in early 2005.
