Spicer, John I.; Stratford, J. – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 2001
Examines undergraduate student perceptions regarding virtual field trips (VFT) and in particular the extent to which they could replace real field trips. Results indicated that students felt a VFT could not replace a real field trip but could be effective in preparing for or revising after a real trip. (Author/LRW)

Owston, Ronald D.; Wideman, H. H. – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 2001
This study examined the assumption that optimal learning occurs in classrooms in grades one through four where every child has access to their own computers. Results of a multiple analysis of covariance showed that student writing samples showed the most improvement with a student-to-computer ratio of 2:1. (Author/LRW)

Jackson, A.; Kutnick, P.; Kington, A. – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 2001
Reports on an analysis of behavior and talk for individuals and single sex pairs using a computer-based drill and practice activity to explain differences in performance among first graders. Results indicated that individuals were more likely to be task-focused and to complete tasks successfully than children working in pairs. (Author/LRW)

Vincent, John – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 2001
Discussion of elementary school children who have a preferred visual learning style focuses on a study that investigated the impact of the use of computers and a visually rich software program in a constructivist classroom environment on their writing. Results show an increase in volume and linguistic complexity in their writing skills. (LRW)

Chang, K. E.; Sung, Y. T.; Chen, S. F. – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 2001
A computer-based concept mapping system was developed that provides two learning environments: "construct-by-self," where the system provides students with evaluation results and hints for feedback, and "construct-on-scaffold," where students also receive an incomplete concept map. The "construct-on-scaffold" had better effect for learning…
