Younger and Older African American Adolescent Mothers' Relationships with Their Mothers and Female Peers.
Davis, Anita A.
Journal of Adolescent Research, v17 n5 p491-508 Sep 2002
Examined differences among younger (ages 14-16) and older (ages 17-19) African American adolescent mothers' receipt of maternal and peer support related to economic strain, maternal problems, and depression. Found that both groups received more support from their mothers than from peers; higher levels of maternal problems were associated with greater depression; and when they received more peer support, younger mothers were more at risk of depression than older mothers.
