Of Chrysanthemums and Confucius: Some Impressions of Recent Japanese Educational Reforms.
Janesick, Valerie J.
International Journal of Educational Reform, v2 n4 p358-62 Oct 1993
Although Japanese public school curriculum is based on the U.S. model imposed during the postwar occupation years, it reflects a long, rich history of group solidarity and consensus, a strong aesthetic sense, and the spiritual influences of Shinto, Buddhism, and Confucianism. Japan's new 10-year education reform plan's emphasis on individual goodness and effort shows Confucius's influence. (Contains 16 references.) (MLH)
