Breaking Down the School Walls
Horne, Matthew
FORUM: for promoting 3-19 comprehensive education, v46 n1 p6 2004
A school system that was designed in the 19th century and evolved during the 20th century is no longer capable of meeting the demands of modern society. Schools do not fit the world around them and as a result "we" have too many "bored kids" who find greater levels of engagement elsewhere. Schools cannot meet the expectations of the modern world unless they tear down the school walls and make better use of the learning opportunities that surround them. In this article, the author discusses the benefits of turning schools towards a more vocational curriculum and more work-related learning.
