Responses of 903 Canadian college students to the Self-Monitoring Scale (M. Snyder, 1974) and artificial data are used to illustrate the importance of pairing test theoretical structure with quantitative characteristics, including conditional association (CA) and strong positive orthant dependence (SPOD). Information from 1,157 Spanish university classes using a student rating form indicates that class size has some impact on ratings of teaching, that this relationship differs somewhat as a function of the 2 dimensions operationalized in the questionnaire, and that effect sizes are small. (SLD)

A short measure of trait and state negative and positive affect, the Chinese Affect Scale, was developed for Chinese-speaking people and tested in Hong Kong with 306 community adults and 314 college students. Scores had reasonable internal and retest reliabilities and high convergent and discriminant validity. (SLD)

Developed and standardized an Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) questionnaire which was tested with 1,667 adolescents and 277 college students in Hong Kong. Results support the reliability and validity of the scores from this measure of AIDS knowledge among adolescents in Hong Kong. (SLD)

The Rasch model was applied to selection of items for an Arabic version of the Otis-Lennon Mental Ability Test using a sample of 599 male and female Kuwaiti secondary school and university students. Results indicated that the test is suitable for the range of ability intended to be measured. (SLD)

Approaches to studying were investigated in 227 U.S. college students using a short form of the Approaches to Studying Inventory. The factor structure of responses differed from that previously obtained in the United Kingdom, suggesting that basic study orientations are interpreted in a manner distinct to each cultural context. Studied the construct validity of the dimensions of the Multidimensional-Multiattributional Causality Scale based on B. Wiener's attribution model (1979) in achievement and affiliation goal domains. Developed a multifaceted, hierarchical self-concept scale and used the Rasch model to analyze data from 400 Australian college students. Results support a multifaceted, hierarchical model of self-concept, with ideal and real aspects making an unequal contribution as an ordered unidimensional latent trait. (SLD)

Examined the factor structure of the revised Personal Style Inventory (C. Robins, J. Ladd, and A. Luten, 1990) through hierarchical factor analysis using data from 574 college students in Korea. Found a hierarchical model specifying perfectionism as associated with both hierarchical factors (Autonomy and Sociotropy) to be the best fitting. (SLD)
