With the increased accountability of early childhood programs and the need to carefully document each assessment, teachers need to explore videotaping to enhance observational assessments. Observing children continues to be an effective method for understanding the uniqueness of each child's development. In this article, the authors present a case study of a teacher engaged in developmentally appropriate assessment practices through the use of technology, specifically video. When video was used in this study the teacher realized the value of watching the child rather than hurriedly documenting what was observed. The teacher saw things that she would have missed and realized how stress-free this experience was for the children and her. The children responded positively and desired more time with the teacher.
