Plant Parts Snack--A Way to Family Involvement, Science Learning, and Nutrition
Matt, Megan Mason
Young Children, v63 n6 p98-99 Nov 2008
As a teacher who loves to bring botany into her preschool classroom of 4- and 5-year-olds, the author makes edible plants a regular, popular feature of her students' environment. The author is fascinated when her students become increasingly adventurous in their tastes for vegetables the more they handle and understand plants. The author decided to explore the children's interest further and to draw parents into the learning process by instituting a healthy, daily snack program called "Plant Parts Snack." In this article, the author describes how to organize, document, and carry out such a program, and includes family and student reactions to this classroom approach.
